Last July 27, 2014 Philippine population has officially hit 100 million. The birth of Baby Chonalyn brought the country to its new milestone. Now that Philippines has 100 million living in its area, is it a good o bad news?
Philippines with its government and agencies is facing an never-ending problem with its overpopulation. Based on the National Statistics Office there are three baby born in every minute. Imagine how fast the population grows. As of 2013 the population listed 98, 734, 798 people and 100, 617,630 for year 2014. Millions of people suffering from its effect and poverty is one of the biggest issue linked with overpopulation. No matter how abundant our resources are, we still lack in other sort of needs. In reality one of the main reason why the country experiences slow development is that we have too much number of people that the government and resources cannot provide sufficiently. We can set education as example, the growing population of the children who need to be educated result to unsuffient materials and place where they can study. The worst case is because of the shortage, many students doesn't receive the appropriate facilities and material they need in studying. In other cases, because of financial problem due to unemployment others may not be able to go to school and experience the previlages in education. These are just few effects
of overpopulation.
As per Juan Antonio Perez, executive director of the official Commission on population "This is both an opportunity and a challenge... an opportunity we should take advantage of and a challenge we recognize,". Yes its an opportunity for our country having numbers of people who will work in together to help rise the level of economy through work and career opportunities but its also a challenge for the goverment to make actions to help the people sustain their livelihood. It's not just a challenge for the government but also a challenge for each Filipino on how to sustain the daily personal and family needs despite the competency because of the large number of people.
The answer to the question if it's a bad one. good news, for some it's a bad but for some it's also a good news. In a pre-dominated Catholic country like us, birth is not a bad thing but rather a blessing. If poverty is our first problem then its a signal for us to do something against it. Lets not wait for the government to act for us. We are the one responsible for our own living. Their are solutions for this problem but it seems that we are not curing the illness. If we want to rise then lets make an act to do it. Lets not add to the problem but rather remove ourselves to the list.
